“This
film is my personal journey, as an Israeli adopted adult,
ten years after the reunion with my birth mother, whom I met
in Paris. This film is my way of searching for ways to
maintain a relationship with a birth mother who is not
interested in any real contact. By meeting other birth
mothers and adopted adults struggling with the same issues
of identity, loss and pain, I try to resolve personal
identity issues in a quest for some kind of closure to my
life story.
“The personal stories portrayed in this film deconstruct
many of the adoption myths that have invaded our society and
reveal the complexity involved in the life of each person
affected by adoption. Tales of search and reunion may relate
to rejection as in my story, or deep connection as in
Patrick’s story. No matter the outcome, individuals come
away with more pieces to fit into the puzzle of their
identities.
“Birth mothers were supposed to disappear gracefully,
forget and go on with their lives. The birth mothers in this
film carry different shaped scars portraying the different
faces of loss caused by giving up a child for adoption.”
